LABoral selects Gijon's duet Maresia for a 6-month art residency

Maresia

The jury selected Maresia's project because it is in line with the research lines of the Centre which means that the knowledge gathered by LABoral in the field of sound landscaping may be better used. The project requires experimentation with sounds taken from the urban and rural areas of Gijón, which represents a link with the territory and interaction with the natural and social environment. The jury also takes into consideration the fact that this residency supports the creation of a new collaboration project between the two artists.

Moreover, it appreciated the accurate and detailed work with sound matter that shows a good command in the production of electronic music. The way to present their work and collaborate with the activities of the centre will be defined during the residency.

Maresia is a duet made up by Pedro Lebrato and Javier Suárez, two friends with different styles but with similar concerns that decided to work together in a new music proposal.

Their point of departure is the creation of a music map of their city, Gijon, gathering its sounds and transforming them, looking for common points between sound landscape, ambient, IDM, techno or concrete music.

A project to describe spaces and spots of the city, but also to develop the tools and processes that allow for the on-site creation of atmospheres, rhythms and melodies based on the sound landscape of any place, at any time.
