The government of Wallonia, Belgium, has invited LABoral to present its firm residency programme in the framework of a symposium on international challenges and potential collaborations among creative hubs.

A Hub is a meeting space for professionals looking for new collaboration and exchange opportunities to collaborate and exchange, allways following the premise of developing innovation and creativity.

Under the name Creative Hubs, the government of Wallonia has implemented a learning programme to develop seven new non-profit organisations that are aimed at boosting creativity in seven Belgian towns in fields like shared thinking and creation. This new spaces are aimed at developing collaboration, exchange and innovation  for a diversified public in fields related with technology, art, economy and society: big corporations, SMEs, institutions, startups, students, artists, technologists, culture stakeholders.

Within the framework of this programme, on Wednesday April 22, in Wavre, in the outskirts of Brussels, Caring for Hubs will take place, a symposium on international challenges and potential collaborations in this field  in Europe and abroad. This summit will be attended by the seven organisations that take part in this initiative Creative Hub, and in addition to LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, the following have been invited: Design Factory (Helsinki, Finland), Nova Iskra (Belgrade, Serbia), Système J (Jura, Switzerland), the creative and innovative Swiss artist Geneviève Morand, Creative Bangkok (Bangkok, Thailand), and San Francisco's City and County.

The hybrid nature of LABoral and its collaborative work with artists, technologists, society and firms is one the elements that has generated most interest and the Walloon Government contemplates potential collaboration with the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial de Gijón.

The Managing Director of LABoral, Lucía García, will present the Firm Residency project, an initiative developed by the Art Centre in partnership with Science and Technology Park of Gijon. It is aimed at exploring the benefits resulting from collaborative and interdisciplinary work among art actors and businesses, whose respective activities have been traditionally separated, in order to generate an actual feedback for the benefit of innovation.

In this case, the collaboration is based on the conviction that networking among artistic, scientific and business fields will result in adding up resources in the current economic context and what is even more important, opening new paths and generating opportunities in both directions.

LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial's mission is to be the driving force boosting the cultural industries and this is in line with this project. LABoral, whose DNA is in the intersection between art, science, technology and society without loosing sight of its vocation as a  Centre for research, production and dissemination of the new ways of artistic and industrial creation, has been working on this lines as well.
