LABoral and the artist Mads Lynnerup invite the public to free gym classes at the Centro de Arte
‘Plastic Gymnastic’ is one of the 12 works in the ‘Presencia activa’ and provides an opportunity for the public to ‘get in shape’ with the help of instructors from the Metropolitan Club

Danish artist Mads Lynnerup became fascinated with the appearance of typical equipment found in gyms and the way these objects function in fitness centres. This daily observation helped him with his research into seeing how to break open the static nature of art objects displayed in galleries, museums and art centres. From next Friday 5 October until 25 February, the public will be able to see the installation Plastic Gymnastic, one of the twelve works making up the exhibition Presencia active [Active Presence], a show which is coproduced by the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón and MARCO, Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo [Contemporary Art Museum in Vigo].
What’s more, anyone will be able to ‘get into shape’ by going to free classes that will be given on a regular basis at the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón until the exhibition closes. Under the guidance of instructors from the Metropolitan Club, the Galería de Exposiciones [Exhibitions Gallery and Hall] will hold Cros-MET, Zumba, Pilates and Fitness Condition sessions at the artist’s installation.

On the occasion of the exhibition’s opening, the artist himself will be present on Friday 5th from 8 to 9 pm and on Saturday 6th from 12.30 to 1.30 pm to join in with these unique gym classes open to public participation
Plastic Gymnastic has resulted from Mads Lynnerup’s interest in creating objects that can be used for a full workout and which, at the same time, make it possible for visitors to use them in the actual exhibition space, in this way changing the habitual codes of conduct in an art centre.
