Summer Sessions programme is a talent development network

LABoral has joined the international network of artist residencies Summer Sessions which brings together thirteen art centres and museums from all over the world to promote artistic exchange and support the production of works. Together with Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) [Spanish Cultural Action], the Centro de Arte Creación Industrial in Gijón has organised a call for an artist residency by a young Spanish artist or resident in Spain.

The Summer Sessions programme is a talent development network and consists of short-term residencies for young artists organised by a worldwide network of cultural organisations. The residencies provide an environment suitable for artistic production in the best possible conditions. These include a production grant and specialist assistance to support the progression of young artists into professional practice.  The format is metaphorically like a pressure cooker in which a project is developed in the course of one month from concept to presentation - ready for exhibition.

Summer Sessions is aimed at young artists who have a project prepared for its completion over the summer. The application is made through a video presentation in which the artists should explain their project, the technical and human support they need, and their motivation in taking part in the programme.

For applications and participating in the selection process, all of the steps apart from the final selection are carried out on the website, http://www.summersessions.net, implemented by each organisation in its respective section. In the application the artist should indicate the sponsor (the entity sending him/her) and the host. The sponsors make a pre-selection of the submissions in their respective countries. The sponsors and hosts make the final selection.
