The LABoral team presents its activities in different professional forums in Seville and France
Rosina Gómez-Baeza takes the Gijón-based Art Centre’s project to the ‘Art and New Technologies’ meeting held in the Andalusian capital while Pedro Soler and David Pello present their work in the production area in Paris and Nantes
Rosina Gómez-Baeza, Director of LABoral; Pedro Soler, Head of Plataforma Cero. Centre for Research, Production and Resources; and David Pello, Technician at Plataforma Cero, have taken part in various professional forums over the last few days in which they presented the activity of the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation in Gijón and their work in the production area.
Since yesterday, the Director of LABoral has been taking part in the first Art and New Technologies meeting which continues until today in Seville. It is organised by the Institut Français in Spain, in collaboration with the International University of Andalusia (UNIA), with the aim of creating "lasting ties between cultural institutions and French and Spanish professionals”. At this yearly event, representatives from prestigious institutions in France and Spain discuss the challenges arising from recent technologies in the creation, production and dissemination of visual arts, the performing arts and music.
Under the title ‘The Arts and New Technologies. What’s at Stake for Museums?’, Rosina Gómez-Baeza and Nicolas Bourriaud, art critic, former director of the Parisian Palais de Tokyo and future head of artistic creation at the French Ministry of Culture, have led an intense debate on the role of museums and art centres in present-day society.
Experts also present at this meeting, which is supported by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication with the participation of the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Culture and Seville City Council, include Franck Bauchard, the former deputy director of the Chartreuse de Villeneuve-les-Avignon and future Director of La Panacée, the new centre for visual creation in Montpellier; Juan Freire, expert in digital culture in social networks; James Giroudon, Artistic Director of GRAME, Centro Nacional de Creación Musical [National Centre for Musical Creation] in Lyon; Laurence Rassel, Director of the Antoni Tàpies Foundation in Barcelona; Vincent Cavaroc, Artistic Coordinator of La Gaité Lyrique in Paris; and Juan Martin Prada, Director of Inclusiva-net at MedialabPrado, Madrid.
At the same time, Pedro Soler has been presenting the activity and programme of Plataforma Cero in Paris in the sixth edition of the Mal au Pixel festival which is dedicated to open source culture. A diverse range of people in charge of independent laboratories, hacklabs and international centres and networks were brought together to debate the current state of digital creation based on the use of open code tools. In the French capital, Pedro Soler also visited the FABLabSquare project, included in the Futuren Seine festival which takes place between 18th and 26th June in the City of Science and Industry in Paris.
Similarly, David Pello represented LABoral in the LABtoLAB meeting held in Nantes which is organised by PiNG, a resources association and seedbed for innovative projects based in this French town. At this event, which lasted for three days, the attendants participated in meetings, workshops, performances and concerts related to digital creation. The head technician of Plataforma Cero presented fabLAB, Laboratorio de Fabricación Digital [Laboratory of Digital Fabrication].
