LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial collaborates with Amdas Lafonte in a project of art for social improvement
Amdas Lafonte is an Asturian collective made up by 260 disabled women. The project Rosas y espinas, funded by Obra Social “La Caixa”, is aimed at making the collective visible and transforming its social and cultural image with the purpose of eliminating the stereotypes related with gender and disability.

LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial and the non-profit organisation Amdas Lafonte -Asturian collective made up by 260 disabled women- have joined forces to carry out an art project for social improvement, called Rosas y espinas. Obra Social “La Caixa” funds this project, co-produced by LABoral and the artists Juanjo Palacios and Javier Suárez Quirós.
The integration and welfare of people are highly dependent on the responsiveness of institutions. Therefore, this project is aimed at showing -starting today until the end of the year- the life experience of disabled women with the purpose of making this collective visible, as well as transforming its social and cultural image, eliminating the stereotypes related with gender and disability. Moreover, this project brings art closer to this women and turns it into a key tool for social participation.
Rosas y espinas consists on the creation of an audiovisual map using new technologies to give voice and visibility to the collective of disabled women, thus promoting their social inclusion.
This map will mark places in Gijon that are interesting for the collective, offering information on these places and their degree of accessibility, and will as well offer the opportunity to create a personal map. Participants will be able to share their daily life, not only regarding access barriers, but also including their activities and personal projects. An audiovisual repository of presentations and walks will be created and it will become a point of information on accessibility and an archive of experiences and a place to share them.
The project includes the creation of a web site specifically designed to host maps and photographs, using tools record the entire process and results. A blog will also be created as a space where participants can include comments, ideas and opinions.
Finally participants will finish the project with the creation of a sound piece.
