From Friday 14 October, LABoral will show Hitos, ya nadie muere en casa [Milestones, no one dies at home anymore], an artwork by Asturian artist Eduardo Guerra which has been produced by the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation. Eduardo Guerra’s project was selected along with Danza infinita [Infinite Dance] by the also Asturian artist Lorena Lozano, and Feather Tales II by the artistic duo Ricardo Nascimento (Brazil) and Ebru Kurbak (Turkey), as the winners of the proposal call by the “Oficina de Proyectos” [Projects Office], held at LABoral.

Hitos, ya nadie muere en casa aims to reflect those places that die among themselves, the last things at home, yet –for all that- not the end of anything. The exhibit includes pieces in which image and sound gel into a closed unit that contains a complete "landscape”. In this way, the piece comprises of ten sarcophagi each holding inside a “landmark”, a specific place, unidentifiable except for its photographic representation linked to an audio clue. According to Eduardo Guerra, sound and image are mediums which are able to capture the “landscape”, understood not only as a place or surrounding, but also as a moment; time and space as measures for describing “something” specific.

A graduate of engraving and printing techniques from the Escuela de Artes y Oficios [Applied Arts School] in Oviedo, Eduardo Guerra (Gijón, 1973) is a specialist in silk screen print and lithography, disciplines in which he is a trainer, stamper and assessor. In addition to his professional activity, which he currently develops in his workshop Maldita Impresión, he carries out artistic work mainly related to graphics and photography, although not without leaving out the interventive character of each one. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, the most important of which: Museo de Bellas Artes of Asturias; Muestra de Artes Plásticas of the Principality of Asturias; at international centres both in Spain and various countries; and in activities at galleries including Espacio Líquido. He has won grants and competitions among which the grant for production by the Fundación Municipal de Cultura del Ayuntamiento in Gijón [the Gijón City Council Municipal Foundation for Culture]; Explum International Contemporary Art Contest and AlNorte Arte Contemporáneo, are worth mentioning. (http://cargocollective.com/eduardoguerra)

THE PROPOSAL CALL
In April of this year, the LABoral Projects Office issued an open call for the production of three projects which upon completion would be exhibited in the “Sala de Columnas” [Hall of Columns] at the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation. The rules envisaged the selection of two proposals by artists who are Asturian or resident in Asturias, and a third one aimed at creators of any nationality interested in completing a two-month artistic residency at the Centre. For the two Asturian artists fees amounting to 1,500 euros were allocated, and an additional 6,000 euros for the production of the proposed work, while for the project by creators of any nationality, in addition to the 6,000 euros for the production of the work, another 2,000 euros was set for fees and other expenses incurred during their residency at the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation.
