LABoral will inaugurated on Friday 20 Speech Prosthesis (An Alchemical Conversation), The winning project of the DKV Seguros - Álvarez Margaride Production Grant, a call made jointly by LABoral and insurance company.

The project puts forward a multifaceted view of the current energy problem in Spain and includes an audio-visual installation, which comprises a wall projection of large dimensions and quadraphonic sound, and a piece of digital animation. It will be on show in the Centro de Artey Creación Industrial, Gijón, until September 14.

Based on audio recordings of interviews to an environmental activist, a historian, a sociologist and an economist, footage from power stations and digitally-generated images, Speech Prosthesis (An Alchemical Conversation) addresses the conflicts created by an official vision of society and nature, or politics and science, as watertight realities. Contrarily to that, this project proposes a model that contemplates simultaneously human societies, industrial objects and natural phenomena, as intertwined entities with undefined limits.

The project questions also how the current political framework hinders the potential of technological development and how recent energetic laws in Spain represent a polluting agent.

David Ferrando Giraut will use his residency at LABoral as a phase of research and compilation of material for the production of a piece that will be presented, in process, at the end of June. This piece will be developed during the two following months, at the same time that several events related with the current energy problem take place; the final versiono f the piece will be presented in the last phase of the exhibition, in September.

Born at Negreira, A Coruña, David Ferrando Giraut lives and works in London. He is a graduate in Fine Arts from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and MFA in Fine Arts from the Goldsmiths College.
