LABoral has launched a call for the production of an educational tool that brings contemporary art practice closer to teachers and students. The deadline for submitting the projects is June 12, 2015.

This is a multiannual call that falls within the framework of the  programme Mecenazgo Expandido, a collaboration model that involves a group of private collectors that is presented as new paradigm in the fostering of artistic creation and cultural funding in public venues.

Directed by Alicia Ventura, Mecenazgo Expandido contemplates the production of artistic works and educational tools that shall be funded by several private collectors, in an initiative that combines the support to creation and the production of new work, funding and setting up a context for the pieces to be produced. The Colection ACB, Julián Castilla, Tanalot 98 SL and Marino Yera who show with their support their will to help disseminate culture from its roots, with an initiative that brings together patronage and production.

Addressed to creators or collectives whose work combines contemporary art, education and new technologies, it is funded with € 10.000 for production and fees. Organiser will provide accommodation, in the housing owned by LABoral for this purposes, and will provide a travel budget of up to 1,500€ gross.

The tool is to be developed in collaboration with the Asturian educational community, during a production residency divided in two parts that will take place between October and November 2015 and February and March 2016. A requisite is that the tool must be open and collaborative, so that any user can improve it, update it, adapt it or scale it, and it shall be usable in contexts with poor resources. It must combine a work of educational innovation with its actual and hands-on use in the classroom setting.

It is also aimed at awakening an interest for contemporary art and the work of creators and fostering artistic creativity in the teaching process, while at the same time boosting creativity, imagination and critical thinking.

The winning projects shall be selected by a jury made up by collectors sponsoring the grant, Alicia Ventura, two members of LABoral and two external juries. The decision will be final and will appraise the originality of the proposal, its educational value, its feasibility, both technical and in terms of deadlines and budget, and its impact.
