Señor X, Javier Bejarano, Santiago Lara, Daniel Acevedo and Íñigo Bilbao have been chosen to design the limited edition T-shirts which will be produced by LABoral to celebrate its fifth anniversary.

The selection from the 47 proposals taking part in the call was made by a panel of experts which, , was formed by LABoral’s Artistic Director, Benjamin Weil; Head of Exhibitions, Ana Botella Diez del Corral, and the General Manger, Lucía García (representing LABoral); together with the Culture Department Editor-in-Chief of the daily newspaper El Comercio, María de Álvaro. All of them took into account the artistic and cultural value as well as the impact of the design. Each of the chosen authors will receive gross fees of 500 euros. Although the rules had established the selection of four designs, in light of the quality of the proposals that were presented, the jury decided to extend the number of models for production to 5, which will be made in the Maldita Impresión printing workshop.

The Centre of Art and Industrial Creation launched this call for the production of five limited edition T-shirts, which had to be designed by creators included in the Asturian Artists’ Archive at LABoral. With an open subject matter, 200 units of each one of the five designs will be produced. Out of those 200 items for each selected proposal, 100 will be distributed as part of a special promotion which will take place throughout the month of March; 60 will be available for purchase at the price of 15 euros; 20 will be delivered to LABoral for its use; and the remaining 20 will be handed over to the author of the design.

Through this call, the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation intends to   galvanise its Asturian Artists’ Archive, a section in its Mediateca_Archivo [Mediatheque libraries] which draws together material and documentation of some 100 artists, active from 1950 until the present day. This database, in the process of consolidation, aims to become a key tool in drawing the map of Asturian culture and offer new forms of visibility for its member artists.

THE PROPOSALS

Copy by Señor X. This artist who keeps his identity unknown has included in his proposal a caption that says “The contents of this T-shirt are not available in your country due to a copyright claim issued by Sr. X. Sorry”.

The Last Show by Javier Bejarano. Shows the mutations and transformations which a work undergoes during the creative process through a proposal based on photography, collage, posters and painting forming a plastic melting pot that “submerges us in a theatre that represents its last performance”.

Efecto Reset [Reset Effect] by Santiago Lara. This proposes a visual investigation into “affection” as a renovating force in  our society. In order to give force and expressiveness to the design, the author has chosen to simply use ink on a greenish background.

Error Data by  Íñigo Bilbao. A self-portrait by the artist made with a 3D structured light scanner in which the scanning process is altered in order to cause errors in the capture.
