From Wednesday 11th April all of the people who live in Gijón and hold a citizen card will have free entry to the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial. This measure is the result of an agreement with Gijón City Council, one of the patrons of the Fundación La Laboral, which is the governing body of the Centre since it was first formed. With this decision both LABoral and the City Council wish to bring the activities and exhibitions programmed by LABoral closer to all of Gijón’s citizens.

The citizen card is a document used for identifying and providing the holder with specified benefits and access to certain established municipal services.  The card allows the holder, among other services, to conduct transactions using the Virtual Office on the Gijón City Council website or through the citizen ATMs; to submit requests to the Electronic Register; to obtain census registration forms, enroll on cultural and sports courses, gain planning permission and book sports facilities. Additionally, card-holders can travel on public transport enjoying the different set fares –for those under 25 years-old or above the age of 65, reduced fare, free fare-; they can become members of swimming pools, libraries and municipal golf courses; obtain vehicle access in Cimadevilla in the case of the cardholder being a resident in the area; pay for the permit ticket for parking in the “ORA” [pay parking] zones; use the public toilets and the “Gijón-Bici” bike-rent services.

Free admission to LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial has now been added to these benefits. For other visitors, the entrance fee to the Art Centre continues to be two euros, which also includes the visit to the facilities in the Ciudad de la Cultura [City of Culture] and ascent to the top of the tower. Access to LABoral is also free of charge for Friends of LABoral, children under the age of 10, the accredited press, members of ICOM (International Council of Museums), members of IAC [Contemporary Art Institute] and the Asociaciones de Artistas Visuales [Associations of Visual Artists]. Also, entrance is at no cost every Wednesday in the year; on International Museum Day which takes place on 18th May; and every Saturday and Sunday during July, August and September.
