The Word Laboratory has been formed as a space for the research

This Saturday, 5th March, LABoral will organise the first experimental activity on literary creation within the framework of activities in the Laboratorio de la Palabra [the Word Laboratory], a new initiative by the Centro de Arte y Industrial which has been formed as a space for the research, experimentation and promotion of literary creativity comprised of activities in the laboratory, meetings with creators and prizes. Conceptualised by El Gaviero and promoted by LABoral, the Laboratorio de la paLABra aims to show that poetic language is a form of industrial creation which crosses a wide range of artistic disciplines and can be found in scenarios in the most undreamed-of settings and at the reach of everyone in a recreational and entertaining way.

This Saturday’s activities will be led by El Gaviero Ediciones along with members of the Asociación Española contra el Cáncer [Spanish Association Against Cancer], as well as students and teachers from the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático y Profesional de Danza de Asturias [High School of Dramatic Art and Profesional Dance]. On this occasion, the participants will work on a collection of written poems and audiovisual works, brought together in the publication 444 by El Gaviero Ediciones, including poems by Maite Dono, Julio Fuertes, Luna Miguel and Alejandra Vanessa, who offer their voice in using the poetic word to fight against the fear of naming the illness.

The Laboratorio de la paLABra will develop activities focused on recognising the poetic and artistic value of the word and the presence of poetic language in day-to-day life. In addition, it will examine the importance of orality and public expression, going beyond books or traditional recitation, and encourage adaptation to new technologies and poetry in artistic productions.

The work in the laboratory will be completed with participants attending “lecture classes” by scientific poets, experts in production processes of alternative poetry. These specialists, in addition to outlining their theories and explaining their creative processes, will also be able to evaluate the students´ work and act as motivation for later productions by the students. The project will have as its main participants Maite Dono (interpretation), Estíbaliz Espinosa (metaliterature and technology) and Carmen Camacho (mixing) and Sandra Santano (poetry performance).

Similar events will also run alongside the ongoing work in the LABoratorio, such as the current call for the First Contest of Haikús Eléctricos [Electrical Haikus]; or the participation of Lis Costa (Professor at the University of Barcelona) in the Seminar for Teachers (22-25 March) in which she will share her experience in the use of experimental poetry in schools.
