This Monday 30th May, the poet Carmen Camacho will feature in a new master session in the Laboratorio de la PaLABra [Word Laboratory]. From 10 am to 2 pm, students in the second year at the state secondary school, Isla de Deva in Piedras Blancas, will take part in this activity at LABoral with which the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation aims to foster literary creativity among school children.

Through work sessions, meetings with creators and awards, the Laboratorio de la paLABra aims to show how poetic language is a form of industrial creation which crosses other artistic disciplines and can be found in the most unlikely places, at the reach of everyone in a recreational and enjoyable way.

Carmen Camacho (Alcaudete, Jaén, 1976) is author of the Arrojada series of poetry books (Cangrejo Pistolero publishers, 2007), 777 (Taller del Hechicero, 2007), Minimás (Baile del Sol, 1st ed. in 2008, 2nd ed. in 2010) and Los Poemas del Secano (Palabra Ibérica, Portuguese-Spanish bilingual edition, in preparation). Her work has been collected in more than 20 poetry and narrative anthologies in Spain and Latin America. She has collaborated with numerous national and international creation magazines as well as in poetry and contemporary art interventions and exhibitions.

Currently, she is developing two active poetry works on stage: Venus_Track [words in dance & percussion] bringing together her own poetic texts, contemporary dance performed by dancer Raquel L. Lobato and sonorous textures played by the percussionists Javier Prieto and Mariano Clavijo, and En un Claro del Tiempo, with Jesús Vigorra and organist Miguel Ángel García.

On a weekly basis, she collaborates with Canal Sur Radio in Andalusia in its high-audience reaching afternoon programme “The Public” in the poetry section, Poesía lo serás tú [Poetry will be you] dedicated to broadcasting about poetry in its different expressive forms and in dialogue with other art forms. She forms part of the Editorial Board for the magazine of the José Hierro poetry centre and coordinates, along with the poet Juan Antonio Bermúdez and La Fuga Bookshops and in collaboration with the International University of Andalusia, the Cercanías cycle [Suburban Train cycle]: open reflections on contemporary poetry. In these specialist-led sessions, the participants explain their creative process, evaluating at the same time previous work produced by the students.

On later dates, the project will have its as main participants: Estíbaliz Espinosa (metaliterature and technology) and Sandra Santana (performative action).

Conceptualised by publishing company El Gaviero Ediciones and produced by LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, Gijón, Laboratorio de la PaLABra is a space for research, experimentation and creation dedicated to the poetic word. This education project is run for young people wishing to stimulate their poetic creativity or the power in their words with literary intention. In the words of El Gaviero, “Words invented by the students boil away in the LABoral test-tubes; these words can be definitive solutions”.
