Over 12,000 people visited Ciudad de la Cultura in Gijón during its Open Door Days

43 Asturian creators took part in the Design Market

A total of 12.127 people visited Laboral Ciudad de la  Cultura [City of Culture] in Gijón during its Open Door days, which under the title “Vive la magia” [Long Live Magic] started on Friday 8th and continued until Sunday 10th April, representing an increase of 34.7% in comparison to the previous year.

At LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, the Open Door days recorded an influx of 4.043 people from early evening on Friday until the closing of the Centre on Sunday.

The visitors could take advantage of the free guided visits of the exhibitions Noches eléctricas [Electric Nights], Segundo de Chomón. El alquimista impasible y su cine de fantasía [The Impassive Alchemist and his Fantasy Cinema] and Dédalo España, the Asturian artist Adrián Cuervo´s winning project of the LABjoven_Experimenta award, which was inaugurated on the same Friday.

In addition, during Saturday and Sunday, the Art Centre offered the visitors a new edition of its LABshop/e_LABshop Design Market, in which a total of 43 Asturian designers exhibited and sold their creative work to the public.

At Ciudad de la Cultura, out of the total number of visitors, 8.084 people took part in the programme of free guided visits and tours around the different areas in the City of Culture. More specifically, 3.307 people chose the option of guided visits through the Corinthian Patio, La Plaza, the theatre, the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático y Profesional de Danza (ESAD) of Asturias and the old launderettes. Alternatively, 4.777 visitors opted for touring the City of Culture on free visits with continuous access to the library at Facultad deComercio, Turismo y Ciencias Sociales  Jovellanos [the Jovellanos Faculty of Commerce, Tourism and Social Sciences], the Tower, the Paraninfo, the CIFP Laboral workshops, Gijon’s Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial [the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation] and the headquarters of Radio and Television of the Principality of Asturias.

The visitors participating in the guided tours could observe various acts involving magic, conjuring tricks and special effects performed by the best magicians on the national scene. The Open Door programme 2011 also included an exhibition of naval model-making in the gardens at Laboral and a free show of educational workshops for children.
