LABoral calls for the Artistic Director position for Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón

LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial has launched an international call in order to cover the position of Artistic Director according to the Bylaws of LABoral and the Code of Good Practice for Museums and Contemporary Art Centres.
The new Director of Activities will be elected by the Board of Trustees of LABoral, advised by a committee of experts, after a public attendance process focusing on the merits and capability of the candidates. A specific technical committee will be created for the selection, formed by three members of the Trustees and four renowned professionals in the in the field of activity of LABoral Centro de Arte. The deadline for presenting the applications will be open from today, March the 24th, until the 2 of June, 2015, at 00.00 (midnight) and it is expected that the process will be finished by the second semester of this year.
The terms of the call require a professional with a wide experience in the scope of arts, counting with international renown and willing to continue developing a singular and cutting edge project in its definition, according to his strategic plan.
Once selected, the Artistic Director will be the one in charge of leading the team of the Centre in the management and coordination of the activities to develop by the Foundation. The director will have to examine the organization chart of the institution and to propose to the Board of Trustees the necessary changes for improving the development of the activities, prioritizing the growing of the team and supporting each member in order to reach ambitious goals. Furthermore he or she will be responsible, with the support of the Managing Director, of establishing a budget and an income scheme for the activities, by using resources as private as public; and to develop a dynamic strategy of fundraising, trying to involve corporations and individuals in order to balance the activities programme and the resources that are put in his/her disposal.
Among the defined functions, the Artistic Director will be responsible of the developing of the actual Strategic Plan of LABoral, which contemplates some programmatic axis in all the areas of the Centre – exposition, production, education and investigation -, leading the development of a theoretical discourse in the framework of the direction and management project of LABoral and the conceptual axis derivates thereof.
For this, the director will articulate the conceptual axis of LABoral through projects of production and investigation, exhibitions, encounters or any other activities and will establish programming lines that will promote the integration of the activities making all the areas to complement each other.
REQUIRED PROFILE
The Director of Activities, he or she, must have a university degree with a minimum level of bachelor degree or equivalent; accredit wide knowledge and experience in the scope of contemporary art, technology and industrial creation, as well as demonstrated outstanding trajectory and experience in the diverse areas of the contemporary artistic practice: production, investigation and diffusion.
In the same way he has to accredit creativity, global and innovative vision, dynamism and initiative through the curated exhibitions, projects made, published texts, lectures imparted and participation in round tables about the contemporary artistic practices and the industrial creation.
It is also required a deep knowledge of art systems as well as emerging models of cultural contemporary production; and have a network of national and international contacts in the field of arts, technology and the contemporary industrial creation, in order to contribute to maintaining the position of LABoral as a centre of international projection and to develop an outstanding activity programme in close collaboration with other institutions, so the Centre can be a leader in international collaborative projects.
The applicant, who is required to have a full command of both Spanish and English, must have the ability to promote the interchange of programs and knowledge with other centres, institutions or related or complementary organizations in order to position and incorporate the institution in local, national and international collaborative networks. He has to accredit knowledge and experience in the scope of investigation, development and innovation at business, social, scientific and technological levels and in the creation and management of interdisciplinary collaboration frameworks; as well as for communicate expert knowledge and involve and make taking part diverse audiences.
He must also prove capabilities and experience for the proposition, implementation and development of collaborative lines with the community local and regional context in which LABoral is located, which the one cooperates and projects. It is also required the possession of knowledge about digital tools of communication and capability for represent LABoral in all areas for build and develop networks of relationships both internal and external.
