International Museum Day Serves as an occasion for the Public Presentation of LABsocial_Club
The Centre of Art and Industrial Creation celebrates a new Open Doors day, with free access, guided visits and workshops this Wednesday

This Wednesday, to coincide with the celebration of International Museum Day 2011 under the slogan “Museum and Memory”, LABoral has presented LABsocial_Club. This project, promoted by LABoral in collaboration with the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Education and Popular University of Gijón City Council, draws up an audiovisual map of the sensations, feelings and opinions of elderly people living in Asturias.
The event was attended by Minister of Culture and Tourism for the Principality of Asturias and President Foundation La Laboral, Mercedes Álvarez González; the Mayoress de Gijón, Paz Fernández Felgueroso; the President of the Municipal Foundation of Social Services and city councillor of the area, María Esperanza Fernández Puerta; and the Director of the Foundation, Beatriz Cerezo Estévez. All of them were accompanied by LABoral’s Director, Rosina Gómez-Baeza, and by some 200 people from the 12 elderly homes in Gijón, of which nine are run by the City Council and the remaining three by the Principality of Asturias.
The project’s name -LABsocial_Club- is inspired by the famous documentary, Buena Vista Social Club, by the German film director, Wim Wenders, who visited Cuba in 1998 to bear witness to the latest recordings and concerts of some of the best musicians who lived on the island in the 20th century.
In this case, the music is played by the sound artist Juanjo Palacios as he accompanies elderly people along a series of “sensorial” walks through different neighbourhoods in Asturias with the aim of looking, listening and understanding the environment in which they live. The Centre of Art and Industrial Creation marks this anniversary of International Museum Day with a new Open Doors day, including free entry and participation in workshops, guided visits of the exhibitions and spaces not usually visited and concerts.
OPEN DOORS AT LABoral ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY

Opening hours: 10 am to 7 pm.
Meeting point for the activities: the Lobby at LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, Gijón.
- Behind the Scenes visits, with guided tours around the exhibitions and warehouses, workshops and laboratories under the guidance of the mediation team at LABoral.
- Light Painting Workshops. Light painting is a photographic technique in which one or several drawings are produced using a source of moving light or the movement of the camera around the source.
- Blue Magic (Cyanotypes workshop). Cyanotype is an old monochrome photographic procedure which obtains a copy in blue, called cyanotype. This process called ferroprusiate is used widely in the copying of architectural plans. The workshop deals with photography, learning, technique, entertainment, usage, material and image.
