The winning project will be showed at the Exhibition Hall of the Port Authority

LABoral and the Port Authority of Gijon have launched Ciencias del Mar, a call awarding a production residency to Asturian artists working in the field of science or technology in relation with the sea and the ocean.

Ciencias del Mar will give artists living in the immediate environment the opportunity to make use of LABoral Centro de Arte and its resources as a platform during a production residency that will last up to two months, between May and June 2015. The resulting art project will be shown from June to September this year at Sala de Exposiciones de la Antigua Rula of the Port Authority of Gijón or at any other venue of the Port Authority.

The financial award will cover all expenses resulting from the residence, with a funding of 2.800 € for fees, production, travel and accommodation – subject to taxation according to current law- upon approval of the project selected and its budget.

The deadline for submitting the documentation via e-mail is April 23, 2015, at midnight. The documentation is to be sent to: produccion@laboralcentrodearte.org

The Port Authority of Gijón is the public body responsible for the management of the Port of Gijon. It reports to the Ministry of Development and is one of the main sea ports of Atlantic Arc. It is an industry leader in the transport of solid bulk cargo and it is connected with over 200 ports around the world through an important network of regular lines. It has a privileged position in the northern coast of the Iberian Peninsula as it features fast connections with the transeuropean networks of road transportation and, moreover, it is the leading port in Spain in the movement of goods by railroad. This fact, together with an excellent offer of infrastructures enables the Port Authority to be very efficient and competitive.

The Port of Gijon has been linked to the city for several centuries, first with its local or pre-industrial port and later with the commercial port of El Musel. For several decades now, it has developed an important policy of interaction with the city, in order to adapt old facilities and harbours to nautical and boating activities and leisure areas for the community. In addition to this plans in the field of infrastructures, there is a strategy of quality, patronage and collaboration with other institutions and firms in the port environment and devoted to culture, sport and social assistance.
