DKV Seguros and LABoral have announced the DKV Seguros – Álvarez Margaride Production Grant, a yearly call which is intended to provide an artist who is either Spanish or legally resident in Spain, born in 1971 or after, with a production residency to carry out a project.

The call for proposals is has resulted from a collaboration agreement, between LABoral and DKV Seguros, which will last 5 years, by which  both parties undertake to organise, produce and exhibit the work resulting from the DKV - José Luis Álvarez Margaride production grant.

The production grant, jointly called by LABoral and DKV Seguros, pays homage to the businessman José Luis Álvarez Margaride, a native of Gijón and president of DKV Seguros until his death in 2010, for his commitment to business in Asturias and his interest in art, culture and scientific research.

CLOSING DATES AND AWARD
In this first edition the closing date for the submission of projects is 1 March. The artist residency will have a maximum duration of two months (between April and June 2013), during which the artist will be provided with accommodation and a work space. The maximum project budget will be €10,000 gross - €2,000 for fees and a production fund of €8,000 – as well as access to all of LABoral’s technical and human resources. The completed work will be shown at the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón from 21 June until 22 September this year.

Those artists or collectives eligible for the DKV Seguros – Álvarez Margaride Production Grant will be those whose work uses new technologies in its broadest vision, and who are either Spanish or a legal resident in Spain, born in 1971 or after.

A jury, formed by Josep Santacreu and Alicia Ventura as the members appointed by DKV Seguros, two representatives from LABoral and an external juror will select the project on the basis of the following criteria: the artistic and cultural value of the presented projects; the suitability of the specific space; viability of production in terms of deadlines and budget; technical viability of the proposal in terms of its implementation; and project impact.

LABoral’s programme for this year 2013 has been underpinned by strengthening the research and production of new work through artist residencies and work groups. The Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, Gijón, will invite artists and developers to utilise the space and technical resources available to them, in many cases, through public calls as on this occasion. New works will emerge from this which will subsequently be shown in the various exhibition rooms at LABoral as a precursor to their travelling to other national and international spaces.  In other cases, the outcome from the residencies will lead to workshops and presentations in which the creators present the results from their research to different audiences.
