LABoral and ITMA Materials Technology (Technological Centre of Materials in Asturias) have signed a collaborative agreement with the aim of carrying out conjointly scientific and technological support activities which contribute to the dissemination of science and technology.

The agreement, signed by Samuel Menéndez, Deputy General Manager of ITMA, and Rosina Gómez-Baeza, Director of LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón, establishes a stable collaborative framework between the two institutions for the development of activities in training, scientific and technical areas of shared interest, as well as for the promotion and joint project development both in the national and international field.

LABoral and ITMA aim to work on the development of specialist training programmes, to take part in joint projects in both the national and international field, as well as collaborate on issues related to the activities of both organisations.

ITMA is a technological centre in Asturias working in the areas of R+D+I and Technological Services for businesses in the materials sector. Its mission is to contribute to the expansion and development of textile business in the region, utilising technology as a strategic tool for improving competitiveness. The technological centre carries out the following activities:

·       Research and development projects on products and processes in the specialised areas to which ITMA brings its nationally and internationally renowned capabilities, and for those which it is a strategic partner for the companies.

·       New technology-based products and processes which contribute to the establishment of new areas of economic and entrepreneurial activities.

·       Technological services in laboratory and conformity evaluation attending to the quality and independence of the service, its economic viability and guaranteeing that companies can access them in the best conditions.

With this collaborative agreement, LABoral takes a further step in consolidating its position as a major Knowledge Centre and leading institution of artistic, scientific and technological dissemination in Spain. The Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón acts as a multidisciplinary space supporting artistic exchange and fostering the relations between society, art, science, technology and creative industries. It is an open and dynamic project, aimed at all audiences, bringing together the most contemporary artistic expressions and providing educational and training activities.

The accord sets out an initial four-year period for the collaboration, extendable by agreement of the parties.
