LABoral has announced a competition of remixes as part of the El arte y su sonido [Art and its Sound] project which aims to chart a sound map of the Centro de Arte. For this reason, recordings made by Óscar de Ávila, Rafael Martínez del Pozo, Ramón Prada, the Colectivo Mind Revolution and Las CasiCasiotone have been made available for the participants which can be used to make a new piece or mixtape on the sounds of LABoral.

The goal envisaged is to engage the public in this initiative by LABoral, coordinated by José Manuel Costa in collaboration with Juanjo Palacios, which is being developed alongside a programme that explores sound as a means of artistic expression.  This is specifically the theme in all the works included in the Visualizar el sonido [Visualising Sound] exhibit commissioned by Fiumfoto, and also in datamatics data.tecture [5 SXGA+ version] by Japanese artist and musician, Ryoji Ikeda.

Between 25th May and 8th June anyone may make a remix  using the sound files recorded for the project by the five participating collaborators in El Arte y sonido (Óscar de Ávila, Rafael Martínez del Pozo, Ramón Prada, el Colectivos Mind Revolution and Las CasiCasiotone), who have put together a wide selection of sound approaches to the ambient presently emanating from the Art Centre which focus on aspects such as people, works in exhibition, spatiality and other sounds that can be heard at LABoral. All of them are compiled into an hour-long CD.

The files for making the remix, which should be 15 minutes long, are available at http://elarteysusonido.bandcamp.com/album/fragmentos-concurso-mixtapes. Any kind of approach to the material and its use is left open to the participant. However, all of the sounds that are used must form part of the material provided since additional sound sources are not allowed.

The resulting mixtape should be published in the blog, tumblr, facebook and/or the participant’s personal twitter and sent to educacion@laboralcentrodearte.org, along with the corresponding links. All this must be accompanied by the following information: the author’s name and surname, date of birth, telephone number and postal and email address.

The mixtapes entered in this competition will be published in the project’s bandcamp and the winning remix will be posted on the LABoral website.  The author of the winning entry will also receive one of the extra-limited edition CD’s which will be produced with content from the El arte y su sonido [Art and its Sound] project.

Dates: from 25th May to 8th June 2012
