DKV Seguros and LABoral have announced the second DKV Seguros – Álvarez Margaride Production Grant, a yearly call for proposals which aims to provide an artist who is either Spanish or legally residing in Spain, born in 1972 or after, with a production residency to complete a project which will be exhibited at the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón between 20 June and 14 September 2014.

Both organisations are in this way continuing with their commitment started last year to boost innovation and creativity through art. DKV carries this out via its programme ARTERIA DKV while the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón achieves this through the production residencies at Plataforma 0. Production Centre. The grant pays homage to businessman José Luis Álvarez Margaride, a native of Gijón and president of the Spanish subsidiary of DKV Seguros until his death in 2010, for his commitment to business in Asturias and his interest in art, culture and scientific research.

CLOSING DATES AND AWARD
In this second edition, the closing date for the submission of projects is 14 January 2014. The artistic residency will last a maximum of two months (between April and June 2014), during which the artist will be provided with accommodation and a work space. The maximum project budget will be €10,000 gross – €2,000 for fees and a production fund of €8.000 – as well as access to all of LABoral’s technical and human resources. DKV will have the right to acquire the work resulting from the residency, if its committee decides to do so, for an amount not exceeding 8,000 euros

The DKV Seguros – Álvarez Margaride Production Grant is open to any artist or collective whose work uses new technologies in its broadest vision.

A jury formed by Josep Santacreu and Alicia Ventura as the members designated by DKV Seguros, another two members appointed by LABoral and an external jury will select the project on the basis of the following criteria: the artistic and cultural value of the presented projects, the suitability for the specific space, the viability of production with regard to deadlines and budget, the proposal’s technical viability in terms of its implementation and the impact of the project.

LABoral plans to keep on basing its programme for the year 2014 on the strengthening of research and the production of new work through the organisation of artist residencies and work groups. The Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón will continue to invite creators and developers to use the spaces and technical resources available at its production centre, Plataforma 0, in many cases through public calls, as on this occasion. By doing so, the centre consolidates its support for the production of projects at the intersections of art, science and new technologies.

New works will emerge from this which will subsequently be shown in the various exhibition halls at LABoral as a precursor to their travelling to other national and international spaces. In other cases, the outcome from the residencies will lead to workshops and presentations in which the creators present the results from their research to different audiences.
