LABoral has launched a call to set up a work group, formed by approximately a dozen people, who research and debate in a cross-disciplinary way as to how the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón can meet the current needs of the local artistic community. With the name of Códigos abiertos [Open Codes], this core group will also focus its research on looking for formulas to develop new ways of interacting with all audiences which aim to get their involvement so that they become active participants, building their own experiences in the LABoral space.

The first meeting of the Códigos abiertos project will take place on Tuesday 15th March at 7 pm at the Art Centre’s Chill-out space. Those who have been invited include the members of LABoral’s Archive of Asturian Artists at Mediateca_Archivo [Media Libraries] as well as Plataforma 0. Production Centre members. Also, bearing in mind the aim of forming a group of people which is as diverse as possible, it was also suggested that the invitation be extended to other people who consider that they have an interest in taking part: architects, designers, musicians, and in general, all kinds of professionals related in some form to the world of culture.

The starting point of this group is centred on the exploration of new ways of presenting current artistic creation to the public, focusing more on the creative processes than on the finished and closed products, while also seeking to form spaces and uses that engage the involvement of users and visitors.

All this comes with the goal of showing how an institution and a group of creative people can come together and with a great interest in designing a research platform on artistic and cultural programmes framed within an institution like LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación, opening doors to new institutional models.

The results from this collaborative, dynamic and cross-disciplinary process could be shown next Autumn on the basis of a specific project at the Art Centre’s Mediateca Expandida [Expanded Mediatheque], a space based on new forms of delivering and accessing art able to extend the limits of the conventional exhibition.

Códigos abiertos has been created with a view to continuing in the future if satisfactory results are obtained. For this purpose, LABoral provides this work group with its own space, the collection at Mediateca_Archivo and the possibility of access to the production tools at Plataforma 0, along with technical consultancy.
