The Metropolitan Club and LABoral celebrate the Carnival at the installation Plastic Gymnastic by artist Mads Lynnerup
On Saturday 9 February “global training” will be held for members of Metropolitan Sport Club & Spa and any of the public wishing to participate at the Centro de Arte

Physical exercise, getting in shape and having fun celebrating the Carnival are the objectives of the “global training” session jointly organised by LABoral and Metropolitan for Saturday 9 February. This two-hour long activity – from 12 noon until 2 pm – is intended for Metropolitan’s members, but it is also open to any of the public wishing to participate, by registering beforehand at produccion@laboralcentrodearte.org.
This concludes the collaboration that has been taking place between Metropolitan and the art centre since the opening of Presencia activa [Active Presence], an exhibition that includes a gymnastics installation by the artist Mads Lynnerup in which, with the help of instructors from Metropolitan, various training sessions open to the public have been taking place since the exhibit’s opening last October.
The “Metropolitan Global Training” will include, among other activities, a Cross-Met which is divided into different training stations, making use of the components in Mads Lynnerup’s piece and other spaces at LABoral, depending on attendance. Also, collectively, a Zumba session (a very successful dance, choreographed activity), will be held for all participants, and to wind up, all of the attendants will take part in a Balance session (a choreographed activity blending Tai Chi and Pilates).
With this proposal, both LABoral and Metropolitan offer a different way to celebrate the Carnival and to do this encourage people who attend to come along in fancy dress for the occasion.
Members of the gym will set off from its facilities - on the ground floor of El Molinón - at 11 am on Saturday to make their way towards the art centre doing different exercises along the route. By 12 noon at LABoral, they will meet up with the people who registered at produccion@laboralcentrodearte.org. Registration should be made before Thursday 7 February.
About Plastic Gymnastic
Danish artist Mads Lynnerup became fascinated with the appearance of typical equipment found in gyms and the way these objects function in fitness centres. This daily observation helped him with his research into seeing how to break open the static nature of art objects displayed in galleries, museums and art centres. Until 25 February, the public will be able to see the installation Plastic Gymnastic, one of the twelve works making up the exhibition Presencia active [Active Presence], coproduced by the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón and MARCO, Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo [Contemporary Art Museum in Vigo].
Plastic Gymnastic resulted from Mads Lynnerup’s interest in creating objects that can be used for a full workout and which, at the same time, make it possible for visitors to use them in the actual exhibition space, changing the habitual codes of conduct in an art centre.
