LABoral will host this summer a new edition of its Children robotics summer camps, aimed at children aged from 7 to 14 years old. From Tuesday June 30th until Friday, August 28; sessions will be held between 10 and 14 hours, Monday to Friday each week. Participants will build robots and learn basic programming concepts.

In these camps, participants will have the opportunity to design, build and program their own robots from a series of challenges to be met daily. It will be used for that purpose the construction set LEGO WeDo. From there, they will learn basics on robotics while having fun.

During the five days of the camp, models of machines and animals will be built (some established and others self-created), actions and behaviours will be scheduled, distances in centimetres and rotation speeds will be measured, the operation of the machines will be investigated and the assistants will create their own stories. To move these creations, some simple sensors and an engine that connects to a computer will be used. The programming environment is based on icons, which you just drag to place and get stuck like a puzzle, so it does not require a specific prior experience. This software detects the sensors and motors and allows you to program the different options. It is a simple and very intuitive tool for this age, due to this, with some support they are able to move forward, creating and having fun while working cooperatively with their learning peers.

Robotics becomes an "excuse" to bring children to scientific and technological content and learn specifically about robotics and programming, as well as creativity and critical thinking are developed.
