LABoral will hold two new children’s robotic camps during the Christmas period
Aimed at children from 6 to 16 years old, it will take place between 23 December and 3 January at the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón
LABoral will hold two new children’s robotic camps, aimed at kids aged between six and 16 years old, over the Christmas period. The participants will construct robots and learn basic programming concepts during the three-day intensive sessions which are to be held on 23, 26 and 27 December and 30 December, 2 and 3 January, from 10 am to 2 pm.
As part of its educational programme, the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in collaboration with Robotix Educación has designed a comprehensive programme for the school year 2013-2014 which is intended to enable the participants in the different activities to learn the basic concepts of robotics and programming while, at the same time, developing creativity and critical thinking. To do this, the LEGO WeDo construction set and Lego Mindstorm NXT platform are used to build robots.
Also, registration for participating is still open for the second RobotixLAB work group, intended for children between the ages of 9 and 16 years old. The attendants continue to make progress in their knowledge of robotics for the purpose of taking part at a later stage in the championships organized by LEGO.
Educational robotics is a tool which allows children from a young age to build their own learning, leading them towards scientific knowledge. It facilitates their learning in a practical, simple and stimulating way, turning them into creators and researchers and not solely consumers of knowledge. The logic of computer programming and debugging allows children to develop intellectual resources that will prove very useful in the future.
The social and working environment which young people will be part of in the 21st century requires active, flexible and creative people who are team-oriented individuals, capable of creating innovative solutions for today’s challenges.
ROBOTIX harnesses these new skills and competences using a consolidated and proven teaching model, developed by Lego Education, which is used in leading countries in education such as Finland, Sweden, Korea and Japan. It encourages talent, communication, entrepreneurial spirit and curiosity for discovering and learning among the participants.
These workshops have many features which make them very attractive in many respects and they are a great way of transmitting to kids the passion for science, technology, engineering, mathematics and many other related subjects, in a cross-cutting way.
