LABoral and the collection olorVISUAL announce a production grant for an artistic project related with art, science and technology
This grant, addressed to European artists under 40, is worth €12.000 and will be exhibited in LABoral in combination with other pieces of the collection olorVISUAL

LABoral and the collection olorVISUAL, Barcelona, have announced the Production Grant olorVISUAL, an anual call which aims to award a production residency programme to a European artist under 40, for executing an art project within the scope of art, science and technology.
With a funding of €12.000 for the execution of the work, the selected artist will work during two months at Plataforma 0. Production Center of LABoral and will have access to technical resources and personal advising during the production residency programme which will take place between May and June this year. Then, the piece will be exhibited at the Mediateca Expandida of the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial de Gijón in an exhibition, which will take place between July 11 and October 12, 2014, where the piece created will establish a dialogue with other pieces of the said collection.
olorVISUAL is a contemporary art collection built after the vision of the essence maker and collector Ernesto Ventós: The smell, which is chemistry, is made from a physical and luminous reality, the colour. Baptised by the poet Joan Brossa, olorVISUAL was created in 1978 after the exhibition Sugestiones olfativas at the Fundación Joan Miró in Barcelona and based on the transformation of smells into painting by Ráfols-Casamada. Later, the collector moves from commissioning into choosing a work of art, which is to be accompanied by a caption where the author emphasises the synesthesic relationship between his work and smell, which is the monographic topic of the collection.
During this process the conceptual artists request the essence maker and collector to create equivalences between colours and smells. Smell permeates memory, but it is invisible, it is just like if it would originate inside it, it seems to flow out of objects… thus it is perceived by the collector and following this principle he has built this collection.
The deadline for presenting projects is March 10, 2014. A jury made up by Ernesto Ventós, collector; Cristina Agàpito, Director and Curator of the collection olorVISUAL; Alicia Ventura, Cultural Manager and Director of DKV’s Art Collection; Vincenç Altaió, writer, poet, art curator, cultural adviser of several institutions, former KRTU manager, Arts Santa Mónica; LABoral’s Artistic Director; and Mónica Bello, Artistic Director of VIDA. Art and Artificial Life International Awards will select the proposal to be produced depending on its artistic and cultural value, its impact, its adequacy to the specific space and its technical and execution feasibility according to the deadlines and budget. Projects must be original, specific and unpublished. Works which have previously been published or have received any awards will not be accepted to this call.
The €12.000 allocation of this grant must cover all expenses resulting from the execution and exhibition of the work (art work production, assembly and disassembly, travel and accommodation, insurance). Furthermore, Colección olorVISUAL will acquire the piece of work resulting from the residency programme for an amount not exceeding €8.000 gross.
LABoral will carry out, during the residency period, several public activities with the artist in order to show the process of creation and production.
