LABoral Centre for Art and Creative Industries is an interdisciplinary space created to promote an exchange between art, science, technology and creative industries. It is also a centre for research, education and technical and art production, as well as for the projection of new forms of art and industrial creation.

The opening programme moves forward the goals of this project, divided into two axes: Visual Arts and Industrial Creation. The dissemination of contemporary creations is a key goal for those activities, in a bid to demonstrate the Centre?s determination to generate new audiences for art, to create a space for interaction among artists, works and spectators and, given its location in the Principality of Asturias, to publicise emerging art from Asturian in Spanish and international art circuits.

Feedback, Gameworld, Cyberspaces and Extensions-Anchors are the four exhibitions making up the opening programme.

Feedbackproposes a narrative between new art creation using technology and its artistic and historical legacy. The show will overview the progress made to present.

Gameworld looks at videogames as a design experience and a cultural force. The exhibition features a selection of veteran games known for the innovative design and artworks reflecting the influence of videogames in modern life.

Labcyberspaces is an initiative of the Projects Office, conceived as an open invitation to reflect on the existing connections between art, technology and industry. The ten selected works share the common goal of dealing with the virtual fact beyond the use of Internet as a tool.

With the exhibition Extensions-Anchors LABoral ?extends? outside its headquarters in Gijon in order to engage with artists from Asturias. Through it, LABoral wishes to demonstrate its desire for a presence, integration and a free-flowing dialogue with society. The exhibition will be developed in two phases in fourteen locations throughout Asturias, and will use hitherto unused venues outside usual art circuits.

The LABoral opening programme will be rounded off with educational and research programmes and workshops. It also includes a cycle of lectures directed by José Luis Brea, reflecting on the impact of the electronic image in present-day societies. It will also pay special attention to its influence on art practices generating cultural meaning and in the transformations they bring about.

The LABoral research work will be carried out in laboratories and experimental workshops exploring light, sound, video, ICTs such as wireless communication, robotic, electronics, software, with physical support, capture of movement and artificial vision and dark room.

LABoral Centre for Art and Creative Industries will open its doors on Friday, 30th March.
