Laboral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, short-listed for the international awards of the Network for Innovation in Culture (NICE)

The centre has presented the educational programme auLAB, developed by LABoral in partnership with the Directorate General of Vocational Education, School Curriculum and Educational Innovation of the Asturian Regional Ministry for Education and Culture, that has made it to the final phase with other 11 projects out of 105 candidates from several European countries

auLAB

LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial is one of the 12 candidates short-listed for the third edition of the awards of the Network for Innovation in Culture (NICE), organised by this European network. The centre presented the educational programme auLAB, a project that has been chosen out of 105 candidates from several European countries. The jury has valued its innovative work programme structured in four lines: Digital design and fabrication, experimental television, creative programme and art and science.

NICE is one of the leading cultural networks in Europe. It is aimed at joining forces and fostering the impact of culture on innovation, urban development and economic growth as established in the EU programme for 2014-2020.

LABoral's auLAB programme will compete in the final phase with other European projects like Touching the Prado (Spain), that consists in bringing art closer to blind people; Julie's Bicycle (UK), based on the agreements of Paris of 2015 to reduce the effects of the climate change; y ROC, 21 (Germany), that is aimed at turning the refugee camps, using social tools, into decent and safe spaces that foster human development. The NICE awards foster innovation at the cultural and creative industries in economy and society to face the grat challenges of the future. This awards foster visibility and know-how to generate an exchange of opinions and boost business activity, culture and politics and encourage cultural and creative decision-makers to be more innovative and experimental.

The network is made up by over twenty centres and institutions in the cultural environment, such as Trànsit Projectes, in Barcelona; BOP Consulting, in London; the University of Birmingham City; and Creativ Wirtschaft Austria, in Vienna, among others.

The names of the five winning projects will be made public in the award ceremony, next August 25 in Essen (Germany), that will be attended by Karin Ohlenschläger, Director of Activities of LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial and representatives of the Directorate General of Vocational Education, School Curriculum and Educational Innovation of the Asturian Regional Ministry for Education and Culture.
