LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, with four European partners -the municipality of Vejle and Aarhus University, from Denmark; Theresia Lyceumme high-school, from the Nederlands; and   Centro Per lo Sviluppo Creativo “Danilo Dolci”, from Italy-  Have been selected to receive the educational brand Erasmus +, awarded by the Spanish Agency for Internationalising Education, in the framework of the EU programme. This initiative led by Vejle is called Fab Labs Schools and it is a project of digital innovation in schools that will involve Asturian students and teachers from October 2016 to October 2018.

This is LABoral's third European project, as it is part of the European Digital Art and Science Network (EDASN) and the European Network for Contemporary Audiovisual Creation (ENCAC), multi-annual projects co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

Fab Labs Schools are aimed at developing a European method to teach digital fabrication and prepare a methodological handbook based on teacher exchanges between educational centres of the four member countries. Moreover, the project will develop the European recommendations for digital fabrication, based on the exchange, testing and assessment.

Today information technologies are integrated in the teaching practices of many professionals. This project goes beyond the traditional IT teaching, focusing on digital fabrication and experimental electronics (3D design and printing, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, microprocessors, sensors, etc.) and their potential to facilitate the learning of 21st century skills. This will help improve the competences of teachers, by changing the way they understand the didactics of the information technologies.

The projects selected in the Erasmus + programme are aimed at fostering collaboration activities for innovation and exchange of best practices and experiences at European level.

Partners with a wide experience in Fab Labs in the educational environment

The municipality of Vejle is the coordinator of the inter-municipal initiative "Fablab@SchoolDK", created by Fab Labs in three municipalities (Vejle, Aarhus and Silkeborg), involving both research and education institutions. There are currently 25 FablabSchools in Denmark and they all take part in the project.

The Centre for Advanced Visualization and Interaction (CAVI) at the University of Aarhus is internationally recognised for its pioneering research in the field of child-computer interaction.  CAVI focuses its research on design, conducting practical experiments to explore the relationship between the design and the process, its interfaces and applications.

Verenigung Ons Middelbaar Onderwijs is an organization made up by several educational centres. The local partner of the project is the school  "Theresia Lyceum", recognised by its outstanding academic work, in particular its technology-based educational approaches. The school has been working three years in digital fabrication.

Finally, the centro Per lo Sviluppo Creativo “Danilo Dolci” is a non-profit organisation that involves young people and adults and has been operating successfully for over ten years, mainly in the educational field, collaborating with schools, universities, associations and social collectives at local and international level. This association fosters the use of innovative educational methods. In particular, the association has extensive experience in the field of non-formal and formal education, working in close collaboration with several schools in Palermo and has some experience with  Fab Lab activities and methods.
