Virginia López
She was born in Gijón in 1975. Lives and works between Florencia and Gijón.
BA in Art History (Universidad de Oviedo, 1998) and Fine Arts (ABAF, Florence, Italy, 2011).In 2010 she obtains the Erasmus scholarship, improving her studies in art facility in yaudiovisual art at Aalto University, School of Art and Design in Helsinki and in 2013 founded PACA_Proyectos Artisticos Casa Antonino (Trubia, Gijon), a space for artistic creation interdisciplinary with special attention to the rural environment and its transformations, with the idea of unifying art, territory and life. Works through different media and techniques: photography (with special attention to the traditional techniques revealed by contacting negative), installations, painting and sculpture (including ceroplastic, constituting the wax one of the favorite materials of the artist). Her work explores the temporal dimension, the concept of memory and transience and does so through the same materials used, understood as containers of time: the wax, organic and metamorphic, unstable, old procedures photographic print, where the image appears and disappears, immersed in water, fragile. Her works are present in private and public collections (Coleccion Unicaja, Gobierno del Principado de Asturias, Ambasciata di Spagna in Roma, Pinacoteca Comunale d’Arte Contemporanea, Gaeta, Italia).
