Associate professor in the Sociology of Communications at the Dipartimento di Studi Americani, Culturali e Linguistici, Università degli Studi di Napoli 'L'Orientale'. Her research interests, developed during the years she studied and taught at various UK universities, such as Goldsmiths' College, the University of East London and the University of Essex, are essentially focused on the cultural politics of new media - including the intersection of scientific and technical knowledges, and social and economic processes. Since she started working at L'Orientale, she has been involved in teaching and supervising students in the PhD Programme in Cultural and Postcolonial Studies, thus becoming increasingly interested in the connection between postcolonial studies and digital media.
She is the author of Corpi Nella Rete, Costa e Nolan 1996 and Network Culture: politics for the information age, Pluto Press, 2004 and numerous essays on new media published in journals such as New Formations, Ctheory, Angelaki, Social Text, Theory Culture and Society, and Trasnversal. She has recently edited, together with Couze Venn, a special issue on Michel Foucault for Theory, Culture and Society on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his death. She is a member of the editorial board of the journals Theory, Culture and Society, Sage and Studi Culturali, Il Mulino; a regular participant to the grassroots seminars of the Italian nomadic university uninomade; and a particle of the society of molecules network (http://www.theaterofmemory.com/societyofmolecules/). She has recently joined the research team working on the project MeLA-European Museums and Libraries in/of the Age of Migration) as funded by the European Union within the Seventh Framework Programme.
