Roger Hiorns

(UK, 1975). Lives and works in London, UK

Roger Hiorns was born in Birmingham. He studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London (1993-96). Hiorns work is involved in the contemporary problem of identifying meaning and significance in the world. He implicates himself in objects and behaviour that contradict the conditioned and appropriate approach to the art making of his forebears and his contemporaries. Hiorns has worked with Naked Youths, antidepressants, jet engines, buried passenger airplanes, steroids, sexual activity and crystallisation. Seeking to identify dominant objects and behaviours within the western world, he would argue for a necessary attuned awareness to the process in the world, an awareness needed to move us toward an improvement on this currently underwhelming time for human potential and development.
