Paula Izquierdo Muruáis

PhD student in the area of Biogeosciences within the Department of Biology, Organisms and Systems at the University of Oviedo. Her research encompasses the understanding of the spatio-temporal variability of ocean surface temperature in coastal habitats and how it affects local ecosystems and their associated biodiversity, especially in the context of climate change. More specifically, her interest is focused on the study of marine heat waves, transient extreme temperature events that have detrimental and long-lasting impacts on marine ecosystems and which, under the influence of anthropogenic climate change, have increased in frequency, intensity and duration in recent decades. She combines academic research with teaching, which she finds particularly stimulating at any level.
