Maurizio Cattelan

Born in Brussels, Canada, 1957, and Vegreville, Canada, 1960, respectively. Lives and works in Berlin and Grindrod

Since the mid-1980s, Maurizio Cattelan has been internationally recognized for his humorous and ironic works, which reflect upon the problematic nature of the relationship between art and life. In his challenging and unsettling art productions, he embraces semantic shifts that result from imaginative plays with materials, objects, and actions.

Maurizio Cattelan's work has been exhibited widely nationally and internationally. Recent solo exhibitions include, among many others: The Menil Collection, Houston, 2010; DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, Athens, 2010; Kunsthaus Bregenz, 2008; Tate Modern, London, 2007; Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Rhein, 2007. In 2006 Maurizio Cattelan was co-curator of the 4th Berlin Biennial. He received the Quadriennale di Roma Prize in 2009, and was also awarded the Arnold-Bode prize from the Kunstverein Kassel, in 2005.
