Mª del Carmen Carrión
Curator of the exhibition 'Fleeting stories'
María del Carmen Carrión is a curator, writer and cultural projects advisor. She is a co-founder of ceroinspiración an independent exhibition art residency space in Quito, where she recently organised the exhibitions Estudio Abierto and Signo y Síntoma: dibujo en el campo expandido. Among the independent projects she has developed recently are The Nature of Things at the Biennial of the Americas in Denver (chief curator Paola Santoscoy) and Arqueologías del Futuro, in Flacso-Arte Actual, Quito, both held in 2010. Between 2005 and 2009 she worked as an associate curator for New Langton Arts in San Francisco where she organised a series of group shows including: Small Things End, Great Things Endure (co-curated with Jill Dawsey, 2008); Critical Foreground (2007); Nothing Stands Still (2006); Five Habitats: Squatting at Langton (2006), and Elusive Materials (2006). During this time, she also started the video programme A la Carta in Ecuador, in collaboration with the collective Experimentos Culturales, presenting over 20 video screenings of emerging and mid-career artists together with guest curators from the USA and Latin America. Carrión has curated works by the artists Adrian Paci, Julio César Morales, Tercerunquinto, Pete Nelson and Estefanía Peñafiel. She is a founding member of CONSTRUCTO, an international collective platform aimed at the research and debate of art and visual culture. In 2005 she received her master's degree from the Curatorial Practice program at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
