Ex-Chairman of the Spanish Chapter of the IEEE Computer Society, 1984-2002. Ex-President of the Asociación Española de Informática y Automática. National Computer Science Award 2006. Fundesco Essay Award, 1989, and Fundesco Research Award, 1996. His research line is focused on the human and social revolution that is taking place currently, and what he calls the Universal Digital Network, where the social and the technological are inseparable.
