Demdike Stare

Modern Love, UK

Demdike Stare is the occultist project of the Britons Sean Canty and Miles Whitaker (50% of Pendle Coven). Obsessed with the aesthetics of horror films from the 1960´s and 1970´s, esotericism, experiments with radio frequencies and dark music bookshops, death and decadence, they have achieved developing a unique imaginary, greatly strengthened through a prolific creativity that has led them to feature three LP´s in 2010.

“Symbiosis”, “Liberation through hearing” and “Voices of Dust” (the three of them featured by Modern Loved and also collected in the indispensable “Triptich” album) constitute an essential manual of their muddy and murky sound. A universe of toxic and asphyxiated atmospheres, but also addictive, full of drones and techno ambient of very low pulsation, full of experimental dub and tribal influences. Totally cinematic and worrying music deeping and strengthing the definition of a hypnotic and sickly sound in which we find other brilliant outsiders like Mordant Music or Shackleton
