Cuco Suárez

Pola de Laviana, 1961

A self-taught artist, since his early works, Su´rez uses a personal form of expression defined by transparent materiality and a message focusing mainly on the identity of the rural world and its ongoing crisis, crisscrossed by the memory of his childhood and his own experience. Trenchant irony and a denunciation of the characteristic forms of behaviour of the consumer society, have given rise to a highly autobiographical fixation taking the expression of violence, radicalism, anxiety and panic to an extreme in his works with entrails and blood in search of provoking sensations of repulsion and disquiet. The use of new media and performance opened up another introspective period, addressing the constant search for understanding and dialogue on the critical tensions and marginality of our present-day society.
