Waves
Customised electronics, joinery, steel cylinders and elastic rope. 130 x 590 x 45 cm
A long stretch of rope physically represents a series of waves in space while generating sound by the very physics of motion. By cutting through the air, the rope at once creates volume and produces sound, configuring a single element.
Depending on the amount of spectators and of their movements, it will shift from a stable and soundless line to chaotic forms of irregular sounds, through various states of sinusoid waves and harmonic sounds.
Given its intrinsic qualities, a space has its own way of engaging with sound, understanding the latter as a succession of compressions and decompressions moving through air in such a way that the very geometry of the space as well as the elements it contains will influence the movements and sound and our eventual perception of it.
