Video Program/Extrusions: WOW

WOW (Documentation) / Aram Bartholl / 2007 Germany / 5 Minutes

“WoW” is a performance by artist Aram Bartholl in which people traverse real urban environments with text-based screen names hovering above their heads, a familiar element in the popular online role-playing game “World of Warcraft.” The performance is part of an ongoing series of works that interpose iconic visual elements from game worlds – such as a partially downloaded tree from the online world “Second Life” – in real public places.
