The Addiction-The Collection (2009-2010)

Photo: Marcos Morilla

The artist’s endeavour to understand the world surrounding contemporary art produced a certain sense of disenchantment. This project was in fact inspired by the positive, hopeful role played by some contemporary art collectors. Here an art collection is put together through the appropriation of works based on personal taste. The form of appropriation consists of drawing copies of pieces chosen for the collection, thus making them somehow more personal. It is like the hope or dream for a better future; Just like teenagers and children who dream of becoming footballers pin posters of their heroes on their bedroom walls. This personal collection is predicated on a personal taste and is shown in an equally personal context, just like some of those collectors worthy of imitation do with their collections.
