At CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Miguel Palma creates a site- specific installation consisting of the presentation of a Saab 96 dating from 1966 coupled with a video projection made from the inside of the car itself. The projected video will register variations in blood pressure and heart rate measured during a ride through the outskirts of Madrid. The data are collected through a system installed inside the vehicle. Here Palma is proposing not only a reflection about the man-machine relationship on various levels, but also interpreting speed as a structural element in self- propelled vehicles. In his own words, “from our current understanding of cars as a prosthesis of human speed, the need to reflect about the reaction of the human body to that appendix is truly pressing.”
