Proxemia is an interactive robotic installation. A community of acrylic spheres rolling like light-emitting-balls on the floor of a dark room. These spheres have internal lighting sources and obstacle detection sensors. These small self-propelled robots only respond to one behavioural rule: they move when they ‘touch’ each other or they face a visitor, therefore changing their pathway and colour. These phobic beings shy away from contact with others. Proxemia was first presented in 2005, as part of an exhibition comprising the works awarded with the Arts and New Technologies Prize organized by Espacio Fundación Telefónica Argentina in collaboration with the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires.
