This project focuses on the biographical yet connecting it with Europe’s collective history, in search of a reencounter with the recent past of 20th century Europe as a way of adopting a stance to face the future. In the process of research into the possible German or Belgian origin of an ancestor, an unknown family history marked by crossfire, wars and reinstatement was discovered. At the same time, it also uncovered some of the keys for the evolution of Europe: geopolitics, mining and Industrial Revolution, the dawn of globalisation, struggles for the ownership of land and its natural resources. This formed the basis for a part-documentary, part-fiction audiovisual creation addressing the subject matter of the construction of memory as well as the mechanisms with which history and society are built.
