CicloS, 2013
Composition by Óscar de Ávila for the project The Mine and its sound. A project by LABoral, coordinated by José Manuel Costa in collaboration with Juanjo Palacios, in coincidence with Aprendiendo de las Cuencas, project curated by Nacho Ruiz Allén and Sara López Arraiza, de Zon-e Arquitectos y coproduced by LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial and SabadellHerrero.
Composition created from recordings made in Pozu Espinos coalmine and its surroundings (Turón).
CicloS: the series of stages or conditions undergone by an event or phenomenon that are repeated in the same order until it reaches a particular stage or condition which is repeated over again in the same order.
The three main movements of CicloS—Immersion, Journey and Transformation—transport the listener to the very coal face itself, making him a aural witness to the various stages that have marked the development and transformation of the vicinity of Pozu Espinos. Similar to the journey made by the coal, from extraction until it is processed. To this end, it metaphorically uses the very sounds of the mine shaft and its surroundings as its main instruments.
