Our present time, in which everything is connected with everything else, is characterized by the alteration of bodies and identities, of the environment, of the economy and even of the very concept of truth. This increasingly more vulnerable and sensitive network of relationships and interdependences means that we are living in an era of constant change and uncertainty. Many of the works produced by the European Media Art Platform (EMAP) engage with these systemic disturbances in the established order. They address the border zones of a social and cultural fabric which is more and more damaged, torn or in a fragile balance at breaking point.

The artists in this exhibition work with blood and chlorophyll to investigate the connections between human and plant life. They use microbial cultures, robotic clams and sensors to demonstrate the contamination of the oceans; or apply AI algorithms so that something as innocent as a tulip can visualize financial speculation. But they also engage with the new icons, practices and virtual devices that define the increasingly more polarized and radicalized scenarios of online social and cultural media.
The works in this exhibition are the end result of the EMARE (European Media Art Residence) call by the European platform EMAP (European Media Art Platform), aimed at European artists working with new technologies. The goal of the programme is to foster collaboration between artists and institutions using new media.

Led by Werkleitz Gesellschaft (Halle), the platform also comprises the following institutions:
WRO Center for Media Art Foundation (Wrocław); RIXC (Riga); M-cult (Helsinki); Kontejner (Zagreb); Ars Electronica Center (Linz); Onassis Cultural Centre (OCC) (Atenas); FACT (Liverpool); Impakt (Utrecht); Bandits-Mages (Bourges), as well as LABoral Centro de Arte.

EMAP is funded by the Creative Europe programme and provides the artists with a grant of €3000, a production budget of €4000 and travel expenses of €500 to develop their projects over a two-month period.
