Skeens
A project by Elisa Cuesta
Skeens (skin and screen) is a speculative artistic response to the pathological state of distraction and subjective disintegration experienced by individuals in our networked existence.
Based on the private data of the last 10 years, which one of the most important social networks makes available to its users, the artist proposes an exercise of decoding and later materialization of her information.
During a two-month residency, the artist has prototyped different textile materializations, each corresponding to one of the three categories of records found after an initial analysis of the dataset:
- desktop publishing, data corresponding to the actions voluntarily generated by the user to design his profile,
- interaction, those corresponding to communication and exchange actions with other users,
- the social network's own records, intrinsic to the platform's operation, usually for analytical and/or commercial purposes.
Faced with the obligation of self-design and the pressure of self-referentiality in the extended present, Skeens claims his own space and time, which allow the construction of self narratives from memory, comprehension and finitude.
Skeens is the winning project of the XI Production Grant LABjoven_Los Bragales
