The installation recreates natural optical phenomena commonly referred to as rainbows through synthetic and artificial means. The natural wonder is becoming malleable through digitally controlled lights and fog, manifesting new phenomena that previously could only exist in our imagination.

The project seeks to recreate transitory aspects of nature and play with its perception. It is an attempt to synthetically reproduce one of nature's most impressive wonders out of its expected context: rainbows and similar optical phenomena, such as halos and coronae, that occur in the atmosphere.

Synthetic rainbows will be created inside a garden-like installation composed of full-spectrum LED lights, as well as water and fog nebulizers. The phenomena can be formed by a digital control system. Their shapes become malleable, can bend and form new arrangements such as lines and circles.

Project in collaboration with Dr. Bruce Yoder (USA-Switzerland), senior researcher at the Zurich Polytechnic.
