Hybrids
The artist Raquel Sakristán and six participants from the BERDE collective will shape a large-format mural under the title Híbridos. Simultaneously other participants will document the process in audiovisual format.
This project is part of the BER[DE]CINE programme that will be developed at LABoral Centro de Arte in 2023. The programme is aimed at a group of people with functional diversity with combined interests in both audiovisuals and mural painting, using these forms of expression as tools for collective creation and research.
The concept of hybridisation will be explored from different angles and will be present throughout the development of the work, both conceptually and formally.
We will talk about hybrid beings in mythology, in nature and we will also review how in Urban Art it is common for different artists to create a common piece together.
Each character or element that appears in the mural will be created using dynamics similar to the "exquisite corpse" and collage, so that each participant adds new elements to the work of his or her colleagues, but in a conscious way, as a result of intention and not by chance. Through this work dynamic, the contributions of each collaborator and their unique point of view will be combined to generate their own hybrid beings, connections between them and thus give rise to shared narrative.
Personal and group expression intertwine to generate a piece that will envolve organically on the wall. The result has a highly unpredictable component, the fruit of the process itself, and to a certain extent, will reveal aspects of the unconscious reality of the group that created it.
Behind this work of hybridisation lies the idea that joint creation generates a creative richness that goes beyond the sum of its parts.
The Hybrids project, part of the BER[DeCINE - Diarios de rodaje programme, is funded by the Proyecto Asturies 2023 award, having won in the "Arte y cultura asturianas" category.
