In Despliegue, performance takes the final form of a video-installation, to the extent that the action is simultaneously recorded by two cameras: the one fixed to the ceiling above the space in which the action unfolds and the other one held by the artist in her hand. Both cameras are parallel witnesses to an introspective process in which La Ribot fills her surroundings with different objects and performances that have formed a part of her series of actions Still Distinguished. All of these elements are displayed over the entire length and width of a piece of cardboard (which is now what the images are projected on), creating a living scenario, which the action feeds on and which it is also a result of.
Through two opposing views, that of the spectator, identified with the overhead camera, and that of the artist, immerse in her own sphere of representation, the two contrary, yet complementary, parts in all processes of creation are brought together. La Ribot gains an awareness of her own existence through the different elements that form a part of her surroundings and which she uses to recreate her identity. She escorts us into an enigmatic personal universe constructed from conceptual associations and the tensions that arise between performance, dance and the visual arts.
